So you're doing a CP3 Conversion on your LML Duramax..

So you're doing modifications to your 2011-2016 LML Duramax, and you think you're ready to do a CP3 Conversion. Your first questions are likely, "Which kit is best? Which kit is cheapest?". There are several great options on the market, so It may be hard to choose at first. We offer several different kits at a range of price points, which we will be discussing here.

As you may have noticed, there are CP3 Conversion Kits that state CARB Compliant, No Tuning, etc. What do these mean for you? 

What is CARB?

CARB stands for California Air Resources Board and they put forth emissions standards in California which more states have become to adopt. 

What does this have to do with CP3 Conversions? Ultimately, CARB becomes relevant anytime an aftermarket part is to be installed on a vehicle and operated in CA, or another CARB state that requires emissions testing. CARB validates that an aftermarket part is up to their emissions standards when installed on a vehicle and if it passes, they award the product an EO number of CARB-Compliance, making it legal for sale & use in all 50 US States. 

At the time of writing this, S&S Diesel Motorsport  is currently the only company offering a CARB-Compliant CP3 Conversion. 

 

Vehicle Modifications should match the CP3 Conversion Kit that is to be done.

An Emissions Present LML is a vehicle that still has all the factory emissions equipment properly functioning. The reason the Emissions Present LML Duramax requires a specific CP3 Conversion, is the 9th Injector, that from factory, is fed fuel from the CP4.2 Injection Pump. The CP3 Conversion must retain that feed to the 9th Injector for the emissions system to function. This is the reason these kits commonly cost more. These kits commonly do not require any tuning or alterations.

You don't care about any of that non-sense above because your truck is modified and the emissions system is no longer functioning. "What kit is for me", you ask? 

You modified your truck prior to getting the idea of doing a CP3 Conversion, and are no longer able to receive tune revisions from the tuner you have. (Many CP3 Conversions require specific tunes built for the CP3) There is still a kit for you!

 You're able to still find tuning for your modified truck so you can get any kit, which one do you need? This is where things get tricky, as other modifications need to be taken into consideration. Modifications such as aftermarket turbos, injector sizes.

You are going for power, and are looking at a CP3 Conversion kit to pair with large turbo's and larger injectors. Which conversion kit is for you?

The answer to this boils down to projected HP range.

The ranges are 650HP-800HP, 800HP-1000HP, 1000HP-1250HP.
